1920s Themed Party

Yay!   We have a 1920s themed fundraiser, (a favourite period of mine) at the end June.  I will be making the dress, possibly a flapper style dress, not sure yet.  I am a wee bit curvy for the 1920s dresses I’ve see in movies etc., and I’m not about to wear flatteners (see image below) for the bust area that they even used then, but I will try a be fairly true to the era.  I like the longline of the era, and of course the cloche hats are so cute.  I also like the Burlesque style, Moulin Rouge type, but this might be a little to extravagant for me to make for one night. Sam will hopefully go as a gangster of some sort, two tone shoes, pin striped suit, white scarf, suspenders, and Tommy gun, always fun.

I was lucky enough to find some great patterns on Etsy for cloche hats here at eVINTAGEpatterns, and will probably make one out of felt.   Accessories will have to be the cigarette holder and the fur stole, (no animal fur though), probably from Ebay.

I’ll post each part of the costume as I make it, probably starting with the cloche hat, as I purchased epattern tonight so should have it soon.  Just have to find a pattern I like for the dress.

  1. You made that in your first class?!?! With pockets and a snap? If that is the first thing you have ever sewed, you are like a swneig savant. I am seriously impressed and can’t wait to see your pillow! Love the cupcake fabric.

  2. Hey there! Quick question that’s entirely off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My site looks weird when viewing from my iphone4. I’m trying to find a template or plugin that might be able to correct this issue. If you have any recommendations, please share. With thanks!
